Eh. nothing wrong with reference. Reference helps you learn. And if you copied it directly then it's really just a study, so long as you don't claim it as your original art.

You nailed the size of his eyes, mine were way too big! (Always have an issue with 'em.)

I can see what you mean. In the photo I used as reference Connery's eyes were half closed, almost in a cocky manner. (he's James Bond, so of course) I noticed in your picture that his eyes are wide open, almost in a "scared" manner or shocked. (the eyebrows also shape the eyes. Connery's cocky look is accented by the eyebrows straitened, but slightly furrowed, whereas yours again give off more of the shocked expression.)
Shadows also play a huge part in his eyes and face. It may be a good idea to adjust the tonal of his skin. (for that photo in his skin I see almost three very different degrees of tone, making his head more 3 dimentional, and more interesting.)
